Sleep regression is the refusal for a baby who has been sleeping well, suddenly changes and refuses to nap or starts to sleeps for shorter intervals. The toddler starts waking up at night several times than he or she has been doing, or refuses to sleep entirely and take longer to fall asleep. Sleep regression mostly occur when the bay is around 3 or 4 months, and might still re-occur at 9 months, or when the baby hits a year and a half old. Try to maintain the feeding timetable, but if the change was unavoidable, in this case, the regression habits will last longer until the baby get used to the new feeding schedule.

Change of diet can also cause the sleep regression. Remember that the baby is still a toddler, and not used to consuming several types of foods. A 4 to 6 months old toddler feeds on formula or breast milk. A 6 months old sleeping schedule will be interfered with when the formula or breast milk is changed. To avoid this problem, any change of diet can be done early morning so that the caregiver can have enough time during the day to monitor any subsequent changes to baby behavior.

When a baby get affected by change of weather from travelling, sleeping habit will also be affected. They may completely refuse to nap during the day, and also not sleep well at night. Sleep regression can also be caused by conditions resulting from change of weather such as a cold or flu. Avoid travelling with toddlers of this age, unless where need be. Keep the baby warm and carry with you the right clothing for the current weather.

Come up with a routine to be followed during sleep time. Start with an early meal, then a warm bath, followed by a time to read the baby a story before the toddler sleep.
